Our HIAB fleet enables us to collect, transport, and place your load precisely where it needs to be. For many projects, a single skilled driver-operator can manage the entire operation from start to finish. Whatever the scale or complexity of the lift, we provide the right crane and the necessary support crew to get the job done.

Our HIAB Fleet & Capabilities

Our Crane Assisted Transport service is facilitated by our diverse fleet of HIABs, which enable us to provide the correct lifting and transport solution each and every time. With both articulated and rigid vehicles on our fleet, we can provide a range of lifting capabilities to fulfil your project requirements.

HIABs are self-loading vehicles, expertly operated by our trained and experienced driver/operators. We carry out lifting and transport services daily, efficiently removing and transporting a variety of items and loads, carefully placing them in their new location or end destination.

HIABs provide crane-assisted support for projects of all types and sizes, within their capabilities. We have four different crane types permanently on-fleet, with access to others on sub-contract hire as and when needed. Each crane has a different loading and carrying capacity and we’re happy to advise which will be best suited to your project.

Client Testimonial

"Outstanding service from A R Banks from start to finish!

The project required Crane Assisted Transport to move a 4.5m satellite dish forming tool weighing almost 3-tonne. It was completed on time and managed professionally throughout. All H&S requirements at the pick-up end were accommodated.

A R Banks transported the tool over a 500-mile round trip. Great job all round guys, well done."

How is Crane Assisted Transport utilised?

Our crane assisted transport services go beyond simple haulage. We manage the delicate and technical requirements of moving high-value assets that require exact positioning. Typical projects include:

  • Modular Building & Cabin Installations

From site offices to luxury shepherd's huts and modular homes, we manage the transport and final placement. Our operators ensure buildings are precisely levelled and positioned, even in tight or restricted locations.

  • Generator, HVAC & Water Tank Installation

We provide end-to-end solutions for the utilities and engineering sectors. This includes the precision lifting of generators, water tanks, and air handling units onto rooftops, plinths, or into basement plant rooms.

  • Contract Lifting of Static Apparatus

For delicate or heavy industrial equipment, we provide a full contract lifting service. This includes the provision of a Lift Supervisor and Slinger/Signallers to ensure every movement is carried out safely and in accordance with your site RAMS.

  • Static Plant & Machinery Relocation

Whether it’s a 3-tonne satellite tool or factory machinery, we specialise in the relocation of static plant. We ensure that heavy assets are removed from their current position and placed in their new location with minimal downtime.

  • Boat Lifting, Transport & Disposal

Our HIAB fleet is equipped to handle marine vessels with care. We provide specialist boat lifting from marinas or private residences, offering safe transport to a new location or managing professional disposal where required.

Safety & Compliance Excellence

We prioritise safety in all we do. We ensure that our operators are trained to the highest industry standards, maintaining both their professional driving credentials and specialised plant qualifications. To support complex lifting projects, we provide a full suite of safety-critical personnel and compliance measures.

In-House Lift Planning & Expertise

We have an in-house CPCS Appointed Person (AP) in Lifting Operations available to manage your project if required. Our AP can produce detailed Lift Plans and RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) to ensure full compliance with LOLER and BS 7121 standards.

Specialised Support Crews

Depending on the complexity and site restrictions of your project, we can provide specialised personnel to assist our drivers and protect your assets:

  • Lift Supervisors: To oversee the operation and ensure the Lift Plan is followed to the letter.
  • Slinger/Signallers: To manage blind spots and provide clear, qualified communication to the operator during delicate placements.

Full Chapter 8 Compliance

We are fully Chapter 8 compliant in all our Crane Assisted Transport operations. This ensures that when our HIAB vehicles are operating on public highways or at the roadside, we adhere to the strict safety guidelines set out in the Traffic Signs Manual. Our fleet is equipped with the required high-visibility markings, amber beacons, and signage to protect our crew, your load, and the general public.

Key Aspects of Chapter 8 Compliance

High-Visibility Markings

Vehicles should have high-visibility rear chevrons and side markings. These are typically in reflective red and yellow patterns, to ensure good visibility in all levels of light.

Beacons and Lighting

Additional lighting, such as flashing amber beacons, is required to ensure that the vehicle is visible at a distance, during the day, at night, and in poor weather conditions.

Signage

Proper signage is needed to inform other road users of the vehicle's presence and the nature of the work being undertaken, if applicable.
